Short intro video.
PixieBrix is a low-code platform that enables users to customize any website by creating a new layer of the web application stack. As the sole designer on the product design team, I was tasked with redesigning the marketplace's user interface (UI) to make it more user-friendly and intuitive. I was tasked with improving the discoverability and usability of the marketplace, to increasing user engagement and activation of plugins and extensions. I worked with the product owners, the Head of Products, and the front-end development team to implement the various slices for the improvements.
The extension plugin activation marketplace faced several challenges that needed to be addressed to improve the user experience and engagement on the platform.
One of the main challenges was the overwhelming number of plugins available on the platform, which made it difficult for users to find the right plugins for their needs.
Another challenge was inconsistency in the brand application colors being different from that used in other PixieBrix applications causing significant user drop-off while searching for Blueprints to activate.
The aim was to redesign the marketplace's UI to provide users with a seamless, intuitive, and visually appealing experience. The goal was to improve discoverability, usability, and ultimately increase user engagement and plugin activation.
The approach involved a user-centered design process that included user research, creating personas, developing wireframes and prototypes, usability testing, and iterating the design. This approach aimed to create a more engaging, intuitive, and visually appealing marketplace that improved discoverability, usability, and drove increased user engagement and activation of plugins.
To analyze the existing marketplace, we conducted a thorough review of the current UI and assessed its strengths and weaknesses. We identified several areas that needed improvement, including navigation, search functionalities, and UI design.
Concerning the UI design, we observed that the existing marketplace lacked visual appeal and consistency. The design elements and layouts were not consistent throughout the platform, leading to confusion and frustration for users. Therefore, we needed to create a more visually appealing and consistent UI design that would provide a more pleasant and engaging user experience.
By analyzing these areas of improvement and addressing them through the design process, we aimed to create a more user-friendly marketplace that would ultimately drive increased user engagement and activation of plugins.
We analyzed the marketplace and developed wireframes and prototypes to address pain points. Starting with low-fidelity wireframes, we tested different layouts and elements quickly.

The project involved redesigning the UI of a marketplace for activating plugins in a web app. The main challenge was to improve the discoverability and usability of the platform while also aligning with the goals of the client. Our approach involved analyzing the existing marketplace, developing wireframes and prototypes, and iterating and refining the design based on feedback and testing results. By incorporating user feedback and addressing pain points, we were able to create a user-centered, intuitive, and visually appealing marketplace that increased user engagement and activation of plugins.
